Douglas Oneal Ponder

   Douglas Oneal Ponder, 85, of Yadkinville, NC, entered his heavenly home on August 13, 2021 from Yadkin Nursing and Rehab in Yadkin County.

   Douglas was born on July 14, 1936 in Talladega, Alabama.  He was the son of the late Emmett Oneal Ponder and the late Lestine Ponder.

   In life, Douglas graduated from Howard College (1954) where he practiced religious studies.  He was a pastor for 50 years before retiring in 2001.  Douglas married the love of his life, Beverly Anne (Zeiler) Ponder.  Their union was blessed with three children, Jeffrey Ponder, Marcia Shaw, and Karen Ponder.  Being of the Baptist faith, Douglas was a member of First Baptist of Yadkinville.

   Douglas leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Beverly Ponder of Yadkinville, his son Jeffrey Ponder of Mocksville, daughters, Marcia Shaw (Pastor Dennis) of Boonville, Karen Ponder of Raleigh, a sister, Sue Ivey of Talladega, AL, and one granddaughter, Emily Shaw of Boonville.

   A private service will be held later when Douglas is buried in Raleigh.
