Mrs. Vetral Brown Gardner 97, of Hamptonville, NC went home to be with her heavenly Father shouting Hallelujah on her way. She was surrounded by her children as she always wanted.
Vetral was born in Yadkin County on March 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Della and Whit Brown, in a small house delivered by her Mother’s Sister Martha Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years and teenage sweetheart Maxton Ezekiel Gardner, Jay Blankenship, sons Rubin Gardner, and Sonny Gardner (Dody), daughter in laws Marilyn Gardner, and Elaine Gardner, brothers John, Melton, Buck, Floyd, Ruben, and Fletcher, sisters Gertrude Walker, and Rebecca Lawrence, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, one step great grandson.
Vetral was the early rising wife of a Tobacco Farmer and Saw Miller, and was always the one who milked the cows. She was formerly employed by Unifi Industrial, and Astoria Braid, and was a fulltime homemaker. Her hobbies included crocheting, she loved her plants and flowers, and just had a green thumb and could make anything grow. The testimony to this is a weed Lucy brought home from a mission trip, and mom turned it into a beautiful plant. Vetral Loved the Lord, Church, family and friends. She was a member of the Yadkin Chorus, and with only a fifth grade education was a wonderful Sunday School Teacher at Flat Rock Baptist Church.
Mom we Love you, and as we always said when we left, “we’ll see you soon if not we’ll see you in Heaven.”
Surviving are her children Peggy (late Rubin) Gardner, Coy Gardner, Lucy Maxine (Roger) Swaim, Jerrald (Seunghee) Gardner, Nellie (Benny) Norman, Issy (Ricky) Hinshaw; seventeen grandchildren; two step grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews;
Funeral service will be held 3:00pm Sunday March 24, 2019 at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Dr. Charles “Joey” Tomlin officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow the service in the Church Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincerest Thank You to the staff at Pruitt Health Care for the exceptional care and kindness they provided for Vetral during her stay with them.
